Toronto, ON

Toronto is one of the two Canadian cities that are internationally known and for good reason. Toronto is Canada’s equivalent to New York City and has lot of cool attractions in or around the area to see an explore. I grew up just outside of Toronto with an easy commute and got to explore a little of everything. I’m going to go back soon and take more photos of what this great city has to offer. Torontonians are known across Canada as having an attitude that the world revolves around them so to be fair to other cities I must also admit that there are 7 lane wide freeways, parking lot-esque traffic and garbage everywhere. Again, not unlike NYC.

Places I would suggest you visit:

  • Toronto Zoo
  • Canada’s Wonderland (located in Vaughn just North of TO)
  • Casa Loma
  • Ripley’s Aquarium
  • The CN Tower — lots of cities have a similar tower, none I have visited in North America have compared due to it’s height. You can also hang off the side with a harness if you’re that kind of crazy.
  • The Toronto Islands via one of the three ferries.
  • St. Lawrence Market
  • The Distillery District
  • High Park
  • Kensington Market — this is an outdoor market for good weather.
  • The ROM (Royal Ontario Museum)
  • Graffiti Alley — I used to LOVE taking photos of friends here as a teenager. If you want an edgy new social media profile check it out.
  • Queens Quay/Toronto Waterfront
  • Niagara Falls Day Trip
  • Rogers Centre/Hockey Hall of Fame for a sports fan

New York City, NY

NYC was on the top of my US bucket list as a little girl and it met or exceeded all of my expectations. There is so very much to do, see and eat that it’s on the top of my list to revisit when the 2020’s doomsday vibe subsides.

This was my first trip travelling alone in the US and will always have a special place in my heart for that reason alone. The architecture, 1920’s vibes, skyline views, the food etc. make NYC one of my top two US cities alongside the Portland area. I can certainly see why many creatives are inspired by the big apple.

Calgary, AB – Peace Bridge

The peace bridge is one of my favourite architectural attractions in Calgary. It’s colour, lighting and shape always seem to draw me in to wanting to take ‘just one more photo’ of the landmark. Usually, while likely strolling by the Bow River between downtown and the Sunnyside/Kensington neighbourhoods for a late afternoon cup of tea. Between the bridge itself, the skyline vistas and river below I just keep coming back here as one of my favourite destinations when wandering Calgary.

Calgary, AB – Downtown

I’ve spent a considerable amount of time downtown in the heart of Calgary and have grown rather fond of it. Between my commutes to the office, aimless wandering adventures on the weekends and late nights with friends shopping or playing food critic at the local restaurants I find myself drawn to the energy of the busy streets.

There are lots of places to grab a late brunch or bougie coffee, devour some Alberta beef or consume more dumpings/tacos/cupcakes than is recommended by the food guide and your doctors alike. Nom. There’s even a garden in our high end downtown shopping centre, what’s not to love?
