Zion National Park, UT

Zion National Park is just stunning in a way that I haven’t found outside of Utah. The colours of the rock formations is so different from everything we have in Canada. I’ve been through twice now and I’ll certainly go when life takes me back to Utah.

Lake Minnewanka

Lake Minnewanka is one of my favourite lakes in the Rocky Mountains as it’s still touristy and popular without being so crowded it loses it’s natural beauty in a crowd of selfie sticks. I love how teal the water is in Alberta and how it seems to compliment everything surrounding it.

Calgary, AB – Edworthy Park

Edworthy is one of my top 3 favourite Calgary parks because of the trees. I’m nothing if not predictable in my love of the forest. Edworthy is one of those rare spots in Calgary I can feel I’m immersed in nature while inside the city. There are lots of picnic areas filled with families, groups and doggos.

This park almost always smells like campfire and offers river views and access to beautiful hiking and walking paths. It connects two of my favourite neighbourhoods in the city and brings everything together. You can often find me hanging out here with a new book and an overpriced local latte enjoying an afternoon in the park.

Vancouver, BC

Vancouver is my favourite Canadian city after travelling across the country and seeing all the beauty in this country. The environment is picturesque in British Columbia and there is lots to do, see and eat in Vancouver. I’ve been to the city a number of times both on vacation and with work and it never gets old to me.

Some places I would suggest you check out if you visit the Vancouver area:

  • Stanley Park
  • Lighthouse Park
  • The Vancouver Aquarium
  • Grouse Mountain
  • Pappa Roti Cafe (Malaysian Coffee Buns)
  • Granville Island
  • Gastown neighbourhood
  • Capilano Suspension Bridge & Cliffwalk
  • Dinasty Dumpling House
  • Robson Street Shopping
  • Soft Peaks Ice Cream
  • Kitsilano Beach
  • Parallel 49 Coffee & Lucky Doughnuts
  • Nuba Lebanese Restaurant
  • Al Porto Italian Restaurant
  • Sweet Obsession Bakery

Revelstoke, BC – Day Trip

I need to start off by saying I LOVE British Columbia. Not necessarily the cities, people or tourist attractions any more than others but I love the trees and ocean views. The whole west coast of North America from mid California up to Northern BC has the best places for “tree bathing” if you will.

I once visited the “Boardwalk of the Cedars” near Revelstoke on a camping trip. I’ve been back numerous times since. It’s a somewhat unknown gem you just have to check out if you like the big old coastal forests as much as I do. I often miss the Redwoods in the US and Vancouver Island living in Calgary and this is my go to spot to visit that’s reasonably close by. The drive from Calgary to inland British Columbia never disappoints.

Calgary, AB – Inglewood Bird Sanctuary

I visited the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary in Calgary for a nice summer nature walk and to discover a place I hadn’t been before. I never expected to see such a large amount of deer that were super comfortable with people. I hope to visit again soon as this is one of my favourite hidden gems in Calgary that often gets overlooked even by the locals.

Calgary, AB – Bowness Trails

During this Covid-19 quarantine I’ve taken a lot of walks around the city to get a break from the inside of the four walls of my apartment. One of my favourite areas to explore was the Bowness trails along the Bow river. Bowness has now become one of my favourite neighbourhoods in the NW to wander. It has everything I love..trees, riverside pathways and a number of old bridges that used to transport trains back before Bowness was absorbed by the Calgary city limits.

I’ve also added a few shots from last year taken during one of the two glorious days of autumn that Calgary gets to bear witness to. The colour of these trees was the closest I’ve seen in Calgary to what I experienced and miss from Southern Ontario or coastal cities such as Vancouver, BC or Portland, OR.
