Ottawa, ON

I lived in Ottawa for about five years in my college years and loved this city. It’s clean, safe (as long as you avoid the sketchy downtown McDonalds late at night) and is a nice place to relax and take in some history. I would like to go back and take some newer more high quality photos of our capital.

Some places to visit in Ottawa:

  • Parliament (obligatory tourist location)
  • Major’s Hill Park
  • The National War Memorial/Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
  • Byward Market
  • The Glebe Neighbourhood on Bank Street
  • Hintonburg Neighbourhood
  • The Rideau Canal — you can skate it in the winter when the conditions are right. Walking it in the summer is also well worth it.
  • The National Art Gallery
  • The War Museum
  • Gatineau, QC & Casino Du Lac-Leamy — Gatineau is just accross the bridge from Downtown and the casino is commutable by public transit if you don’t have a vehicle.
  • Gatineau Park — the foliage colours are gorgeous in the fall
  • Rideau Carleton Raceway
  • The Science & Tech Museum
  • Dow’s Lake
  • Mooney’s Bay
  • Dragon Boat Festival
  • Ottawa Jazz Festival
  • HOPE Volleyball SummerFest
  • Ottawa Bluesfest
  • Tulip Festival
  • Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival.
  • Mr. B’s Italian Restaurant
  • Suzy Q Doughnuts
  • La Bottega — they have the best sandwiches in the back of the small grocery mart.
  • Zak’s Diner — it’s a 24/hr diner in the Byward Market
  • Petit Bill’s Bistro
  • Bite Burger House
  • Baton Rouge Steakhouse
  • Elgin Street Diner — another great 24/hr diner
  • Wilf & Ada’s
  • Shawarma King
  • Detroit Soul Food

Toronto, ON

Toronto is one of the two Canadian cities that are internationally known and for good reason. Toronto is Canada’s equivalent to New York City and has lot of cool attractions in or around the area to see an explore. I grew up just outside of Toronto with an easy commute and got to explore a little of everything. I’m going to go back soon and take more photos of what this great city has to offer. Torontonians are known across Canada as having an attitude that the world revolves around them so to be fair to other cities I must also admit that there are 7 lane wide freeways, parking lot-esque traffic and garbage everywhere. Again, not unlike NYC.

Places I would suggest you visit:

  • Toronto Zoo
  • Canada’s Wonderland (located in Vaughn just North of TO)
  • Casa Loma
  • Ripley’s Aquarium
  • The CN Tower — lots of cities have a similar tower, none I have visited in North America have compared due to it’s height. You can also hang off the side with a harness if you’re that kind of crazy.
  • The Toronto Islands via one of the three ferries.
  • St. Lawrence Market
  • The Distillery District
  • High Park
  • Kensington Market — this is an outdoor market for good weather.
  • The ROM (Royal Ontario Museum)
  • Graffiti Alley — I used to LOVE taking photos of friends here as a teenager. If you want an edgy new social media profile check it out.
  • Queens Quay/Toronto Waterfront
  • Niagara Falls Day Trip
  • Rogers Centre/Hockey Hall of Fame for a sports fan

Strangers

These random unknown faceless people inspired me to capture a moment in time that said a lot about those I don’t know at all.

Elbow Falls, AB

Elbow Falls is just outside of Bragg Creek, Alberta and is a beautiful set of little water falls. It’s a popular picturesque stop in the foothills on the way into the mountains.

Fernie, BC Day Trip

A day trip to Fernie, BC was a perfect way to spend a Saturday when we headed out from Calgary in search of adventure, small batch local coffee and a micro-brewery on the bucket list.

Charlotte, NC

I travelled to Charlotte for work and spent only a couple of days in the city. It was very clean and had lots of art and culture. I’m thankful for the experience of seeing this city as I may not have seen it otherwise as it wasn’t on my vacation travel bucket list.
